Testimonials
On my way home I needed to pick up some items and dashed in a liquor store and about half way through I found myself crying! A homeless man asked me what the problem was and I said, “They are going to pull the plug on my dad tomorrow and I can’t even contact the doctor to talk to him about it!” The homeless man, said “Oh, you need to call 211, they will help you.”
And I said “They can’t possibly help me with this.” The homeless man said “Oh yes, they help with just about everything!” So the next morning I called 211 and someone on the line said they would help me. He called somewhere on my behalf with me and right after that the doctor called and we made a plan for my dad to recover…he is 81 years old now, in a wheelchair, but I have my dad… and I have 211 to thank.

First Nationwide Test of the Emergency Alert System
November 9, 2011
Washington, D.C.
2-1-1 California announced today that on November 9 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern standard time, the Federal government conducted the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The test lasted up to three and a half minutes. During this period, regularly scheduled television, radio, cable, and satellite shows was interrupted as the system was being tested. 2-1-1 California would like to ensure that 2-1-1 information and referral providers in California and the larger public were aware that this event was just a test, and not a real emergency alert.
In the event of an actual emergency, 2-1-1 systems throughout the State will be used to distribute critical information to the public, helping to ensure Californians know what steps to take in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency to safeguard themselves and their loved ones.

February 11th is National 2-1-1 Day
Los Angeles, CA
February 11, 2010
February 11 (2-11) is officially “2-1-1 Day” in recognition of the free, confidential, easy to remember phone number that connects California residents to essential community information and services such as healthcare, rent and mortgage assistance, food and shelter, job training, transportation, childcare, senior care, veteran services and much more.
In 2009, local 2-1-1 call centers answered 1.6 million calls for help, and that number continues to grow as more Californians have access to this invaluable referral service. This 2-1-1 day, Nevada County will officially launch its local 2-1-1 service, further expanding the reach of this service to more and more Californians.
